| why we started.. |
|
|
|
Witnessing thousands of discarded flipflops washing up on the East African shoreline, creating an environmental disaster for the marine eco-system, we knew something had to be done. The indestructible rubber from the flipflops spoils the natural beauty of the beaches, is mistakenly swallowed by marine feeders, and stops hatching turtles reaching the safety of the sea.

Inspirationally observing coastal women making cushions from discarded rubbish and children from the communities making toys with washed up flip flops, sticks and thorns, created the idea that something imaginative, artistic and inspirational could come from something disposed, rejected and discarded. |
| All this, combined with the belief in the importance of developing business skills at the local level for long-term development, led to the creation of UniquEco, the (Flipflop) recycling design company. |
